I feel Hot

My skin begins to vibrate

My chest thumps

and heaves with heavy breath

sweat pools in my palms

as my throat dries

My vision blurs

And my legs wobble

I look for help

But I’m alone.

I try to focus

Find something steady

And suck in a deep breath

Close my eyes

Wiggle my fingers

And toes

The heat in my chest

Fails to reach my head

My thoughts go cold

A line of red descends

My hands feel for something… sturdy

And trail the hard wood

To the floor

I fold my knees

Rest my head

and breathe

Before the coldness takes over

I can already feel the pins

and needles spreading over my skin.

I squeeze my eyes tight

And search for the light.

Before it finds me.

I left it here

The last time I fell

Somewhere deep inside my mind

To guide me

Out from the dark.

I have to hurry

As my shoulders sway.

I draw my last breath of consciousness

And find silence

Here in the in between

Where my inner and outer worlds meet

And then I see it

Flickering in the darkness.

Like a beacon.

I let my chest fall

And summon another

As the light shifts behind my eyes

To form pictures

A memory

From my childhood

A single robin

My grandfather

Love

Hope

Strength.

…..

I've found my anchor.

So I can breathe

again.

I open my eyes

I’m okay.

…..
