Fading Embers

Just call out my name

By AyliPublished about a year ago 1 min read

In the glow of fading light,

We danced beneath the stars at night.

Your touch, a spark, a fleeting flame,

But shadows whisper, call my name.

Your voice, a melody so sweet,

A lullaby that makes me weak.

Yet in the dark, where fears reside,

I cannot stay, I cannot hide.

You are the sun, my brightest day,

But here in twilight, I cannot stay.

For though your heart may call me near,

Love can't survive in what we fear.

I need the truth, I need the sun,

A place where love and light are one.

You are my warmth, my spark, my part,

But I can't love you in the dark.

Call out my name when you’re alone,

I’ll hear the echo, feel the tone.

But I can’t chase what’s left behind—

A love that’s lost, a world unkind.

You tried to fill me with your light,

But we’re both fading, out of sight.

I gave my all, I gave you me,

But you couldn’t set me free.

You called me when the nights grew cold,

And I was there, but growing old,

Tied to a love that couldn't be,

Fighting to keep what wasn't free.

So call out my name, but let me go,

You’ll find me where the daylight shows.

For though we burned, our fire’s through—

I can’t keep burning just for you.

And if the day should rise again,

When we find courage to begin,

I'll meet you there, where hope can start—

But never here, lost in the dark.
