Poem 1 Eyes watching me in the Dark
I saw them blink, a pair of lights,
No torch, no lamp, just quiet nights.
A shadow still, it didn’t move,
But eyes like that don’t need to prove.
They watched me from the garden wall,
Not scared, not shy, not there to call.
A flick of tail, a blink, a stare—
The kind of look that says, beware.
No sound at all, no need for speech,
Just patient watching, out of reach.
They know the dark, they blend, they hide,
They’ve got the moonlight on their side.
I turned away, but felt it still,
That steady gaze, that silent will.
You think you’re safe?
You think you’re smart?
A cat has eyes that see in the dark
No 2. I See in the Dark says the Cat
I wait where shadow meets the stone,
The garden path is mine alone.
No need to speak, no need to bark,
I see what moves here in the dark.
Your footsteps pause, I feel your doubt,
You sense I’m near, you look about.
I do not blink, I do not call,
My world is wide, though I seem small.
I catch the rustle in the tree,
I know what you can’t hear or see.
You pace, you shiver, start to flee,
I am calm. You don’t scare me.
No trick, no sound, no fading spark.
I am the cat. I see in the dark.
Just think of me a a watchful friend
Enjoying the garden before you descend.
