Extending The Light

Flickering

Extending The Light
Photo by Andre Taissin on Unsplash

Footsteps rattled the front porch

Dancing flames in stained glass

Broad smiles lit by the torch

A reflection growing too fast

*

A lantern for a soul

A compass leading the mast

Atop a flickering pole

Igniting future and past

*

Lights kept for a need

Flames contained under glass

Fumes and gasoline feed

Spreading glow into ash

*

Marking lonely pathways

Masked by misshapen shadow's

Embers and flames play

Scorch and scars sometimes follow

*

For what hides in the dark

Will be revealed in the light

Taking only a spark

To make a way through the night

*

A box able to burn

Subtle glows of a candle

Many shapes of a lantern

A tender box with a handle

surreal poetry

Well-wrought! A tender box... a tinderbox! An excellent double entendre!
