exposed

a rhyme. a story. truth.

thirty pieces of broken mirror

reflected her shattered heart

and so appeared the devil

promising to transform all into art

.

“I will give you a mirror

a reflection joyful to see

but in return I take the silver

and without truth you will be”

.

this offer of illusion

was too tempting to refute

and so she easily agreed

to what the devil took

.

his mirror showed her beauty

kindness peace and love

and she lived in this mirage

believing herself set above

.

she forgot all about the silver

and how this reflection wasn’t true

and all of her evil demon behaviour

was hidden from her view

.

but there are some in the world

who the devil couldn’t persuade

angels who kept their silver

who see through this whole charade

.

courageous angels who faced the truth

and did excruciating work to change

for no matter how hard the path was

they knew honesty was virtuous, not rage

.

their reflection showed only truth

with all their glimmers and flaws

the devil’s mirror was deception

that showed nothing as it was

.

and so upon this same earth

these types of beings walked

one happy in authenticity

the other delusional in their thoughts

.

and once upon a blue moon

the angels would turn around

to hold up their mirror of truth

to a demon that they found

.

it would rage and scream and writher

in fury and destruction

desperate to unsee

the truth of its reflection

.

the devil watched and laughed with glee

this was the plan all along you see

demons spewing balls of lava and hate

with the intention to desecrate

.

and just as the jews murdered jesus for truth

today corpse-eating demons rob angels of youth

.

it would be good to just let those demons be

for angels to turn their backs and walk away free

.

but as mindless demons murder the earth we all share

there is only so long that it can survive without care

.

so angels share their hard-earned silver

to be replayed in anger that demons violently deliver

.

their ignorance and illusion is killing us all

their fall from grace is a fall for us all

.

their fear of crying and releasing pain

is what perpetuates their deep-rooted shame

.

the fix is really fucking simple

smash that mirror against something hard

get your silver back

look at the truth of who you actually are

.

that will take away the devil’s power

and give it back to god by the hour

restoring the forests, the nature, the energy

to that of something truly heavenly

.

shame is not so hard to alchemize

if you listen to someone just a little more wise

.

you start with understanding and self-compassion

make forgiveness your new fashion

.

you don’t get caught up in blame

or hate yourself for being so vain

.

you just focus on creating the new

on doing your best for those around you

.

on making your love genuine and true

not something pretended from delusional view

.

you make your love stronger than all addiction

you overcome your many afflictions

.

and you do it all with a sense of grace

and apologies to those that you harmed along the way

.

sure it’s not an easy path

but it’s sure better than a life of wrath

.

and leading all of humanity to breaking point

where all of us will perish in your plight

Wow what a fable. Ever words sounds like you sharpened it. This should be a top story!

THIS WAS BEAUTIFUL! The wisdom, the passion, my untamed reaction, ugh! I love everything about this, Kayleigh! You truly are an inspiration!

Love the intertwining of poetry, narrative, and commentary! All very fluid!

  • I kinda practice the "live and let live" and "you do you, let me do me" method. So I just let the demons be. I mean, I too could be a demon for someone who has different beliefs than me. So as long as they don't disturb me, I don't disturb them. Loved your poem!

There’s a lot of food for thought in this one poem.
