Everything feels like home

Tender echoes

Everything feels like home

Cozy, safe, and warm

Half asleep

A blurry glow

It is here and now, and then

Moments, big and small

Blur together

Echoes

Voices and laughter throughout the house

Sounds from the TV fade in and out

The smell of frying milanesas

Drift straight to our hearts

It’s dark out, rain softly taps the windows

I’m woken by our dog’s furry tongue

Quietly licking my little toes

I look at him and think he smiled

My skin peels away from the leather couch

My little brother runs by, in a blur

Bouncing his soccer ball off my head

Laughing, he runs a lap around the house

I can taste the green olive on my tongue

Casually placed there by my mom

Entangled through time—like a bird Feeding her young

Eager mouths reaching up

I hear her call: Time for dinner, don’t forget To wash your hands

My eyes fill with tears of love and longing

A few trickle down my wrinkled cheek

Dad, helllllooo, what's for dinner? I'm hungry

Your favorite sweetie, Granny’s milanesas

I kiss her forehead holding out an olive

And drop in in her open mouth

Everything feels like home again
