Everyone Says They'll Call
Living in a fantasy of deeply reciprocated affection
Stupid me, staring at my phone and waiting,
Incredulously thinking you'd call. I'm all alone,
Living in a fantasy of deeply reciprocated affection.
Everyone says they'll call, I know. But I really like you.
Nervously, I examine the bars on the phone screen (three- shouldn't that be enough?),
Check to make sure it's working,
Eventually coming to the conclusion that it's not the phone that's the problem.

A beautifully melancholic reflection on solitude, where the quiet night offers comfort and a serene escape from the world's noise.
awh this hits hard. So sad but beautifully written - I guess we were on the same wavelength for this challenge haha. I hope everyone else writes more upbeat entries so the poor judges don’t end up too sad 😅😂
Great take on the challenge, if a bit depressing. Well done, and congratulations on Top Story!
Brilliant take on the challenge, good luck 😁
Soooo relatable.. we think everyone is the same as we who care deeply, and then . Yup. Silence… great job! And congratulations on Top Story 😊
Such a heartbreaking piece. Congrats on the top story!
Ahh, making me cry again. I love your writing as it reaches the place inside me that feels so lost at times. "You aren't alone" is often said but we are indeed alone, together.
Ugh, this was such a painful reflection of reality. Wonderfully penned :)
Awesome Top Story - congratulations. Reminds me of a Jimmy Buffett song, "If the Phone Doesn't Ring, It's Me".
Damn this is too real. Def been there! Excellent piece
Oh, this is such a heartbreaking take on the challenge.
This is so relatable! Great piece of work. I really enjoyed. Congrats on TS! :)
Ugh that last line is the final nail in the coffin. Great acrostic!
Cannot describe how much I relate to this lately ...constantly refreshing in case that message came through and I missed it somehow ... checking multiple times in the night *just* in case they did ... but gosh the last line sums it up so well! Amazing piece 🩷
So relatable. And the realisation in that last line...
