“I think somewhere, we're all connected off in some very abstract land. But somewhere between there and here ideas exist.” - David Lynch.

remember, "I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it, don’t wait for it, just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair or two cups of good hot black coffee. "

Thanks for reading!

Author's Notes: Another for the day only because I read the sad news that David Lynch has died at 78. Tried to do a surreal tribute to the man. I don't think it will ever fully represent how much I have loved his films. Since early days when I watched Twin Peaks, Erasherhead, Wild at Heart and Blue Velvet at too young a teen to properly "get" them, he's always been an inspiration. Includes a quote from Windom Earle interwoven in the piece and one at the end by Agent Dale Cooper.

"No prayers dare enter this frightful maw. Spirits there care not for good deeds or priestly invocations. They’re as like to rip the flesh from your bone as greet you with a happy “good day”. And if harnessed, these spirits in this hidden land of unmuffled screams and broken hearts will offer up a power so vast that its bearer might reorder the Earth itself to his liking." - Windom Earle, Twin Peaks

"I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Every day, once a day, give yourself a present. Don’t plan it, don’t wait for it, just let it happen. It could be a new shirt at the men's store, a catnap in your office chair or two cups of good hot black coffee. " - Agent Dale Cooper, Twin Peaks

RIP David Lynch. January 20, 1946 – January 15, 2025

Wow! So, beautiful a tribute. My first David Lynch movie was Blue Velvet. I loved the weird and wonderful stories he produced. What I loved most about the man was his unabashed view of reality...his work in transcendental meditation and his many talks on filmmaking. A true legend. Thank you for this post. The upside down and backward was a wonderful touch :)

  • Back to say congratulations on your Top Story! 🎉💖🎊🎉💖🎊

I had not heard the news until I read your amazing poem. In most fitting and majestic words, you honored the legend. How endearing and how appropriate.

what a nice homage, I also saw his films perhaps too young to understand them, I loved Twin Peaks!

I share David’s love of good black coffee and good cherry pie. I love your tribute!

I was surprised how sad I was! I'm not even that familiar with his work as others, like my husband. But I was. This was a wonderful piece. Full of gravity, and I love the structure. The backwards sentences add a lot. I'm going to remember that bit about presents.

  • This was a wonderful tribute to him and I especially loved the reversed sentences. May he rest in peace

What a great tribute you gave him. This seemed to be two poems in one. Those italicized words seemed to speak of Twin Peaks when the midgets would spout.

Nice to see this Paul. Wonderful tribute 😔..I wrote something too but didn’t post. Still a bit sad and not on a good day. Peace

He had erratic movies but nonetheless a genius

    This is a great tribute.

He was a mad genius, eminently deserving of this tender tribute, my liege.

5 days before his 79th birthday. God rest his soul... I know what he was doing. He didn't want to stick around for this Trump inauguration happening on the same day... All kidding aside, lovely and appropriate tribute, Paul. Twin Peaks was awesome! As well as his other many works.

  • Yes, the world mourns his loss, and this was a beautiful tribute. I like the backwards order - as creative as he was!

    ohh man a perfect tribute....

Of course I read upside down and backwards before I got to the end. Damn. You made.me work for that one. Well done.

  • Rachel Deeming12 months ago

He was weird but wonderful. Sad. Great tribute. Check out your backwards "that". Hope you don't mind me pointing it out, chummerlee.
