J, if the world should crumble beneath you,
If the sky should split open with sorrow,
If grief should sink its teeth into your soul,
Know this
I will not waver.
Not from the sidewalk beside you,
Not from the storm that rages in your chest.
I will stand, unwavering,
A shield when the weight is too much,
A steady hand when yours begin to shake.
I have seen you in the light
Radiant, fierce, unyielding.
I have seen you in the darkness
Fragile, breaking, yet still standing.
And in both, I have loved you the same.
No loss will take me from your side.
No grief will make me turn away.
You are not alone in this battle
I will carry your pain when it becomes too heavy,
I will guard the love in your heart when it feels like it’s fading.
Even when your strength falters,
When the world feels cruel and unkind,
When the past becomes a ghost that lingers
I will see you.
I will love you.
I will stay.
Not just for now, not just for the easy days,
But until our last breaths touch the wind,
Until the earth calls us home,
Until the stars forget our names
I will be here.
Always.
