Eve

A Poem of Self-Acceptance

By Sadie Silverstein Published 5 years ago 1 min read
A time when I felt most beautiful.

I am the epitome of resilience;

The mountain of strength

Overlooking the abyss of struggle.

The beauty I have found within myself

Is second to the sun;

A fire inside me that glows

Red, orange, and yellow.

The love in my heart

Is fuller than the moon;

Bright white against an indigo sky.

My eyes have wept deep blue oceans of sadness,

But also vast, turquoise seas of joy.

My lips have spread blackened words of hatred and anger

As harsh as the volcano erupts,

But have also spread words of apology and empathy,

As gentle as the cool,silvery wind blows.

My arms have been stretched to opposite ends,

East and West like the horizon,

And have also been wrappedaround

The warm body of a loved one,

Like vines of green ivy

Intertwined.

My hands have been clenched in fists of rage,

Like the roaring thunder and crash of lightning,

And have also been held

By the hands of a child,

Innocent and pure,

As the first bloom of the spring;

Pinks, purples, and violets,

Tugging at my heartstrings.

My legs have given out from under me,

Collapsing like an avalanche,

And they have also re-grounded me,

Like the brown roots

Of an ever-growing sycamore tree.

My heart has been broken and beaten,

Like man-made paths

Carved into the earth,

But it has also loved so passionately,

And given me life

To create my own path.

My mind;

The darkest part of me,

Tirelessly making me believe

The lies I tell myself.

My mind;

My most powerful possession,

Endlessly making my dreams

Turn into reality.

My very own garden of Eden.

I am, wholly, natural.
