En Pointe

A poem for the Dancing with Distraction Challenge

Dancing ballet

Is a delicate tip-toe between

Self-care and self-destruction.

There is a ballet dancer who hides from her

Reflection in the studio's mirror.

Ashamed.

Class is dismissed and she wonders whether

Thinness will make her full again, or

If her hair is falling out for a different reason.

Only now she hopes her mind will silence itself in the

Noise of the applause.
