Empty Rocking Chair
Purple Rose
Empty rocking chair is where she sat, combing my naps while I rested on her lap.
Empty Rocking Chair oh how I miss your warmth the touch of your skin with a rub on the chin
Empty Rocking Chair oh how I miss your air the sound of your voice and the rock of that chair
Empty Rocking Chair oh how I miss your Collard greens and cornbread neckbones yams and rice with that old Rocking chair spice
Empty rocking Chair oh how I miss you grin from birth you were my best friend until the very end
Empty Rocking Chair oh how I miss your kisses soft yet sweet lipstick stains covered my cheeks
Empty Rocking Chair oh how I miss you why’d you have to go and fill my life with used tissue
Empty Rocking Chair is where she sat, combing my naps while I sat on her lap. Not a day goes by that I don’t want to cry. You left me now it pains to sit, for when I do my heart skips a beat and I think of you. Your chair my be empty and the rocking may have ceased but you will forever rock on in my heart. Before your chair’s last rock, you made sure to give us a talk and with that talk came knowledge love and peace. I often wondered how I would make it through then as I thought of the chair, I remembered you, the chair is not you but you as the chair. It was never about the chair, but it was always there inside and out the porch or inside, the chair was definitely in our lives. Though the chair is empty our heart and sprites have been and will continue to be filled with the joy and care the will rock with us for ever on.
