Emotional spectrum

Seeing life’s colour palette of feelings.

By Lucy Richards (Divine Postal Service)Published 5 years ago 1 min read

I see the spectrum of emotions

in high definition:

A rainbow of feelings

illuminating the human condition.

I see feelings float across human faces:

Light pastels love to take people to escapist places

away from their body, to somewhere brighter —

perhaps a deep yellow (the colour of laughter).

I see thoughts reveal themselves in subtle gestures:

Deep greens ground in confidant postures

and bounce off bright blues who sometimes use

their sky-like quality to dream and pursue.

I see stories rise with a vengeance to the surface:

They are sludgey brown patterns who’s life purpose

is to keep people stuck

in sloppy muddy muck.

I see joy bubble to the brim of bodies

Overflowing silver sparkles with a magical quality:

That shimmer and land on a neighbour in wonder —

glitter is surely the most contagious colour.

It’s a gift and a curse — to see this emotional prism

with a see-through lens of magnifying precision.

It gifts me a fiery red passion to reform mental health:

To pave the path for life’s palette, so everyone can be themselves.
