questioning the effectiveness and function of societal norms of expected emotional expression

How can we rationalize the expectation for uniform expression,

the arbitrary metrics assumed to signify the echt of the emotion,

--laughter is to happiness as tears are to sadness--

manifestations expected to accompany emotions,

but rather act as capacitors,

limiting the depth of human connection to the superfluous boundaries of a universal expectation?

How are we to truly connect when deviation is treated as deficient,

and communication is an emotional quagmire

contaminated by societal expectation, deception, and vulnerability?

How do we navigate efforts to establish sincere connections

through this socially enforced emotional thespianism,

this widespread illusion of uniformity,

and expected insincerity?

How can the true depths of humanity be fully realized

without the freedom to be diverse without fear?
