Embracing the Cold: Septembers Farewell

A Stream Of Consciousness response to Mikeydred September Dollar Prompt

By Kenneth cruzPublished about a year ago Updated about a year ago 1 min read

The last leaves fell of my tree today. They dance, frolic, and rustle about, while glaring at me mockingly. In the background Green Day plays, Wake Me Up When September Ends. A fitting soundtrack to this moment of dread.

A cold breeze washes over me, chilling my core and sending and aching through my bones. I’ve come so far, another summer gone, season lost. Memories and laughs, hot moments of fun all done. The last leaves they blow away in the distance. They beckon for me to follow, but I’m stuck frozen and hollow.

The flowers have all but died, even the ones I thought I kept safe inside. Gripped by Winters cold chill, and the way the sun suddenly began to hide. I know tomorrow promises Spring, where something new can begin, but as September ends I know I still have this bitter winter with which to contend.

Excellent poem & entry into both challenges 🤩… Green Day’s iconic September song always pops into my head along with any thoughts of September. I especially like your conclusion: “ I know tomorrow promises Spring, where something new can begin, but as September ends I know I still have this bitter winter with which to contend.” I’ll enjoy our Aussie Spring for you ✅.

This is so descriptively lovely that I could feel the encroaching chill and colors of fall. Well done.

Felt this! I love autumn, in theory. In practice, it is winter coming.
