Ellipsis

the art of what's not there

By BrenPublished 3 years ago Updated 3 years ago 1 min read

we build ourselves with a painstaking slowness

absorbing from our surroundings and peers

infinite processes of timeless wonders

from a microsecond to all your worldly years

we mould ourselves we scold ourselves

like endless dreams on a new conveyor

it's just old clothes on a new emperor

a drink that quenches a desert of thirst

some are ok off the rack

but some we try on first

we  puff we preen and we pout

we don't take what we want

we just take what we need

and not knowing the difference

is the breeding  ground of greed

so incredible and awesome

you don't even have to think

no effort or energy required

from birth to the grave we gather little pieces

of everyday contact - not hampered

every level all at once instantaneously

as we vainly attempt to stave off aging

with a quicksilver lethargy

one little precious preon at a time

augment our skins our hearts and our minds

a myriad of gleaned and hoarded splinters

little bits from here and there

we build and shape ourselves

to complement our surroundings

to compliment ourselves

be it a person a thought or a thing

we take a piece and adapt it to our needs

eventually it becomes our own

with the hope that it seeds

the seeds of hope

buildings crumble and people die

ideas come and go

we were thrust headlong into this drama

because it is indeed a great and secret show

this theatre this art this life will go on

with or without us us i'm afraid

everything is one and yet it is nothing

that which imagined is made

and in this endless loop of time

cost is negated by worth

death is just another beginning

that starts with a simple birth

A huge thanks to Clive Barker  for that line!
