Elevator

I do not want to do it alone anymore.

By Karen StevensPublished 5 years ago 1 min read
So, here I stand in the elevator.

Here I stand,

Deep in reflection

Listening to elevator music

While waiting for your floor to arrive

On hold

My life is on hold

Stuck in the same position

Stagnant

Waiting

Wondering

Secretly wishing

Hoping

That you awaken

Because I cannot wait in the same spot forever

My soul calls me to keep moving

I have much to do

But how long does it take

For you to realize your part in that?

Will you ever?

Maybe

Maybe not.

So here I stand

In the elevator

Waiting and stopping on every floor

To see if you are just outside the door

But it opens again

And you are nowhere to be seen.

I sigh as I venture to the next level

If not this lifetime

When?

Thousands of years have passed

I have waited so patiently for you,

As I whisper

“I do not want to do it alone anymore”.
