Dear Earth Mother,

Please speak to my brothers and sisters

my family but not of like DNA

kin born of other misses and misters

particles in motion of shared energy

Advise them and guide them

a nudging, subtle insight, awake dreaming

admirably composed lest the alternate, screaming

set our household straight

with glimpses of humanity's fate

return all hearts to green

before it's too late

Please, Earth Mother

convince your children

to halt the impromptu arm throws

of trash thrown onto the ground

cans, bags, bottles, cigarette butts

mucking up the landscape

careless, selfish, unfair thoughts

whichever way the wind blows

Please, Mother, please

make a splash sending waves

to all our relatives

no more polluting our waters

plastic, styrofoam, netting, chemicals

it's sink or swim time, progenies

but aren't the seabirds, the whales

the turtles and fish our family, too?

blind eyes turned to our animal

sons and daughters

Dear Earth Mother,

Please align all heirs and assigns

so we vibrate on the same frequency

fossils fuels, landfill waste, factory exhaust

make amends, implement change

planet to human balance; decency

Dear Earth Mother,

hear my cries as I hear yours

sympathetic molecular connection

converse, please, with all folk

young, old, the unborn of placental protection

spread your wisdom, make all aware

so a thousand years from now

our descendants will still be here

Thank you, Earth Mother

Your empathetic child
