Earth and Fire

The ground beneath your feet, it shifts

Like sandy dunes, your soul it drifts

A handy knack for seeing not

In silent night, I shoot my shot

I have no right, that’s what you say

No right to speak to you this way

But let’s not fight, for mi amor

I know you’re angling for the door

x

Already halfway gone, I see

I won’t get up, no don’t mind me

I learnt this from uncle oak tree

The one I love, she must be free

x

My time is short, the candle low

My love for you burns fast, not slow

But fast is not your way, I know

And so, here are the seeds I sow:

You are of Earth, and I am Fire

I burn inside, I am desire

You grow your roots, a stable seal

Defend your Earthy home with zeal

You think God wrote your tome alone

So high upon your Earthly throne

If only you had but a spark

With which to see while in the dark

x

Your flame is dim and deep within

Well hidden by your stony skin

So you don’t see it breathe me in

Or if you do, you call it sin

x

But it is nothing of the sort

To say as such is madness caught

No matter what you have been taught

It’s you who’ll find the truth you sought

x

It won’t come from the ‘men who know’

Nor all the books Allah could throw

He has a much more brilliant way

He set us up, like night and day

x

Our souls are matched, we are the same

You are my Earth, and I your flame

If only you could hear my voice

Perhaps your soul could have a choice

x

You see my words but hear no sound

With feet so firm upon the ground

Some fleet of foot would do no harm

A touch of dash, a hint of charm

x

It might just do you well in fact

And we both know you’d stay intact

For Earth finds facts lead straight to Truth

And there she meets Eternal Youth

x

But step by step was not his path

To her, he seems to tempt God’s wrath

Yet in his dreams he sees the light

That’s why he has the gift of sight

x

So at the seams he comes apart

Though Earth has always had his heart

His sight is set, his aim is true

It’s Heaven that he sees in you
