Earplugs

Blessed earplugs

Sleep may come or it may not

I have peculiar ears

Like those of a fox

Every slither of a grass snake, every soft foot-fall of the tiny mouse

Nearly drives me insane with their insistent intensity

Carrying my mind away with imagined horrors outside my front door

Every night. Every night. The noises. The sounds collude to terrify me

Oh my. This is stunning, Tina. It feels nightmarish, and relatable. I love the almost conversational style of some of the lines like the "I have peculiar ears, Like those of a fox" part. Well done.

  • I have misophonia but I'm sure glad I'm not as sensitive as that to sound 😅 Loved your poem!

With hearing as intense as that I am sure that those ear plugs are essential to a good night's sleep. You're acrostic is very well written. The form is spot on and the message comes across clear and concise. Excellent writing!

Good work on this poem that could be used in a therapy group on fears.
