Drug of Choice

By Julie O'Hara - Author, Poet and Spiritual WarriorPublished 9 days ago 1 min read

My Drug of Choice”

Verse 1

This is where I’ve always found my peace—

Where the shoreline hums its ancient melodies.

Where the wind writes secrets on my skin,

And the tide pulls all the noise from deep within.

Every worry, every weight I’ve carried long,

Softens in the rhythm of the ocean’s song.

Chorus

The ocean is my refuge,

The waves my healing voice.

The sand beneath my tired feet

Is my drug of choice.

When the world grows heavy

And my heart forgets its poise—

I come back to the water,

My quiet place, my joy.

Verse 2

Here the world feels honest, wide, and true,

A place where I remember what I always knew.

The salt air clears the clutter from my mind,

And the horizon whispers, “Leave it all behind.”

I breathe in deep, and something in me mends—

The sea has always been my oldest friend.

Chorus

The ocean is my refuge,

The waves my healing voice.

The sand beneath my tired feet

Is my drug of choice.

When the world grows heavy

And my heart forgets its poise—

I come back to the water,

My quiet place, my joy.

Bridge

Some people chase their comfort

In a bottle or a flame—

But I just chase the shoreline

Where the world feels whole again.

No high could ever match

The way the tide resets my soul—

The ocean doesn’t numb me,

It makes me more whole.

Verse 3

So let the waves keep rolling, let them rise,

Let the gulls keep painting freedom in the skies.

This is where I lay my burdens down,

Where the sea becomes my chapel,

And the sand becomes my ground.

Final Chorus

The ocean is my refuge,

The waves my healing voice.

The sand beneath my tired feet

Is my drug of choice.

When the world grows heavy

And my heart forgets its poise—

I come back to the water,

My quiet place, my joy.

Outro

This is where I’ve always found my peace—

In the ocean’s arms,

Where my restless spirit sleeps.
