Drop The Petty

Straightforward poetry addressing pettiness within the imperfect, global, Christian Church

“Drop the Petty” by S.T.I.L.

Warriors aint got time for triviality

There is no place

For such immaturity

Among the church, in the mission field

Or on the battlefield

We give no thought

To “he-said, she-said”

We care only what,

HE, Commander-In-Chief, said

And for the lost

To whom HE said

We must “Preach the Gospel”

We are too focused on eternity

To allow this temporary reality

To pull us

Down into the miry clay

Of gossip, hatred,

Disunity and disgust

HE said, “Love one another.”

It aint no suggestion

So we figure we must

NOPE!!

Warriors aint got time for pettiness

Differences are set aside

And hatchets are buried

When danger threatens

And when bullets fly

When death looms and

Tyrants are foreboding

When slavery’s grip

Starts choking

Warriors care not

About the last ballot you cast

Red or Blue, we care not to ask

What we do want to know is this:

For the sake of the innocent,

Will you persist?

Will you give of your skills, your funds

And your time,

To make strong and hold

These battle lines?

Will you give sweat, blood, and marrow,

To ensure the slave

Permanently taste freedom’s sweetness?

Can you drop your pride

In the deepest well,

Admit your weakness,

Put on meekness

To serve the weakest

Among us?

Warriors aint got time for pettiness

- Our hands are too busy

Doing the Lord’s work

To be sidetracked by The Enemy

- Our hearts are too occupied

With love

To make room for hate

- Our lips are too

Engaged in prayer

To gossip about our neighbors

- Warriors remain in such awe

Of our Savior

That we find it the deepest honor

To share the Gospel with

The vilest of God’s creations.

Discard the frivolous

We aint got time for it

I waste not one poetic line on it

Let go of the petty

For only with empty

Hands, will He use us

To break the slave’s chains.
