Objects in mirror may be closer than they appear,
including
approaching traffic,
a missed curfew,
the boy in the passenger seat
touching your arm.
.
Objects in mirror may be closer
when you don’t even check them
because you’re looking into his ice-blue eyes
when he tells you he loves you
for the first time.
.
Objects in mirror
may blare their horns
in the moment before impact,
may be flashing police lights,
a breathalyzer, handcuffs,
and a passenger who says
he only ever wanted to be friends.
.
Objects in mirror
are closer
than
my court date
in May.
About the Creator
Aubrey Rebecca
My writing lives in the liminal spaces where memoir meets myth, where contradictions—grief/joy, addiction/love, beauty/ruin—tangle together. A Sagittarius, I am always exploring, searching for the story beneath the story. IG: @tapestryofink
