Dream
For Ellie Hoovs' Unofficial Wonderland Poetry Prompts Challenge Day 13
Do not dream lightly like gossamer pulled by wind,
But like an elephant, solid and determined.
Silk thread may be strong but can soon be lost to all
As creatures fail to see it, and torn, it starts to fall.
Soon it's just a wisp of web, white barely captured
Like your vision which once kept you enraptured.
Let your dreams be elephants.
An elephant can't be ignored, it's a mighty beast!
Alive, demanding attention, eager to feed;
Tall, strong, attuned to the wild, ready to act
It marches on, wildly, stirring dirt with its tracks.
One day, it might just charge, tusks and trunk raising
And you'll be riding it bareback, eyes blazing.

Fascinating take on the prompt: “Let your dreams be elephants. An elephant can't be ignored, it's a mighty beast!” Inspiring ✅.
Excellent…. What advice. We should always follow our dreams.
First: I'm obsessed with this being written for the wonderland challenge Second: "Do not dream lightly like gossamer pulled by wind" is so strikingly visual. An incredibly excellent starting line!
What a striking metaphor/bit of imagery! "Alive, demanding attention, eager to feed" yes, I'd like some dreams like that
“Let your dreams be elephants” Wonderful creatures. Lovely line. 🐘
Did I tell you that I recently had a serial dream (continued through 4-5 awakenings), involving Drew Barrymore? Now that one was hard to ignore!
Elephants sure are the best aren’t they!! ☺️ 🐘
Please consider continuing to write these even after the challenge ends, Rachel. They would make a wonderful poetry collection if published. I definitely would buy it!
I don’t know why, but I imagine a professor admonishing his unimaginative students to “let their dreams be elephants!” I think it pairs quite nicely with “do not go gently into that good night”
