Dragon Fire

He says to his brother, “I have to ask you to do the hard part.”

He sees the fear and disbelief in his brother’s eyes.

He sees that he is terrified.

But it must be done.

He looks at his sweat-soaked, exhausted brother.

Who says “I can’t do it. I’ve got nothing left.”

He shakes his head and smiles at his brother, “Yes you do. You can do this.

It is going to be difficult. You are going to want to quit. You. Can’t. You must push through."

His brother, barely able to stand whispers. “How can I?” `

He stares his brother in the face. “Because I believe in you. I know you can.”

His brother takes a deep breath. Closes his eyes and there is….silence. He knows he is waiting, ready to try.

He picks up his guitar and magic fills the room as he starts to play.

Colors dance across the ceiling and notes bounce off the walls

He nods to his brother, “It's all you man.”

His brother nods once and begins to weave his own magic the clear, perfect sound fills all the gaps the guitar may have left in the room.

A wall of sound crashes in waves as he sings words he hasn’t in years.

Notes come together in perfect harmony as the song climbs and builds.

He is giving everything he has to this perfect moment.

There is nothing but the sound. Nothing exists outside of the sound.

There is no pain,

There is no exhaustion

There is no heartache

There is only the sound the perfect note, perfect pitch, perfect moment of the most brilliant magic of all. Music.

The sound builds and builds

The foundations of the room shake

Vibrations ripple sweat

Heartbeats skip and quicken

There is nothing but the sound

The sound will save you

It gives hope

It gives light

It mends broken hearts and dries tears.

It is the lifeblood of the soul.

It redoubles and takes another course

Telling its own story

Sharing heartbreak, healing the broken

Fighting off foes and winning wars

Bringing unspeakable joy and happiness

Just as the heart can’t take anymore and the vibrations are too powerful to bear

With a snap. Silence.

The room swells in the absence of sound.

The brothers look at each other.

He smiles at his brother. “See? I told you, you could do it.”

His brother shakes his head, sweat dripping tears flowing freely. “You carried me part of the way.”

Another smile. “Yes, I did. Because that is what brothers do.”

Finally, an answering grin, “Never a doubt?”

He strums a little light magic across the strings “Never.”

Restless tap from behind them both….

Tap. Tap. Tap.

“Let’s do this!”

“1, 2, 3, 4……..”
