Down with the Ship

The buoyancy of a heart

The stages of life, are deep and profound

Even later in life, we can’t figure it out

We get to a point if we could just get it down

We might plant roots and survive in a town

But instead, you become a ship, and it’s see you around

Who knows when that day is, but it is so far from now

So, until then, I ask permission

to approach your bow and say:

"Sometimes you love it, just because its different

Not realizing it’s the path, that’s most resistant

and one day, when you don't feel love, you will become persistent

and look at shore for me and see a great distance"

Out into deep water, we touch the sky

I kiss your check and tell you goodbye

You’re not convinced, but I wouldn’t lie

One day you'll reminisce for a second try

Believe what you want, but years made me wise

Then I whisper in your ear, and hand you my beer, and say the surprise:

"If life’s a battleship, I won’t let us lose

Because we have had our troubles, but it’s not an excuse

As long as we are laughing, we are the captain

And it just so happens, I am the type of captain

That goes down on the ship that holds my booze."
