Down Memory Lane to the Past

A poem about memories from my life in Latvia along with my poetic memes.

Far away in the suburbs of Riga, Latvia there once was a country road that once led home. There on the Left Bank of the Daugava, you’d think that the city was miles away. There life was slower and the trees softly swayed their branches in the breeze. At the crossroads with another road was a house that was a haven for me. I was where I lived, loved, and played all through the four seasons that were a delight to behold.

In the spring the garden turned into a fantasy with blooming apple trees, and a pear bursting force in pink and white blossoms. For a short time it was a lovely sight to behold and as the spring breezes softly blew, the white blossoms began dancing upon the wind, making it seem like scented snow flaked in the springtime.

To this lovely natural symphony came the blooming lilacs, dressed in white, pink and purple. Their scent wafting upon the spring air, so lovely to behold. Gathering them to me I filled vases for the short time this beauty was a part of my world.

Red tulips brought color to the garden so bright and beautiful. Gathered here and there in the garden they were one of the first signs of spring.

The chestnut trees added their song, to nature’s harmony. And with their creamy blossoms made their own kind of fantasy.

Came the autumn full of colorful hues, the birches though beautiful in all seasons, now golden and shining in the sun.

On and on we could go dancing through the autumn leaves as they swirled around us in a delightful nature’s waltz.

In the winter now a frozen world to face, our footsteps leading through the white snow. Into the quiet of the woods where firs and pines added color to the gray landscape and their lovely dark green needles looking beautiful covered with pristine white snow. When the snow started to melt in silvery white rivulets, the breezes became milder, and it all heralded the arrival of the long-awaited spring.
