Down in the Valley
A view of the James River

Looking so contently,
Down off the bridge,
Water with deep ridge,
The James River flows,
Where it starts,
We all know,
Looking deep down in the valley,
It is so low,
Trees dot the landscape,
The feeling is innate,
Down in the valley,
The river goes,
Where it ends,
We all know,
There is an island in the middle,
As we cook on the griddle,
The mountains easily reach high,
As our joy is nigh,
The sights and sounds,
Are without bounds,
All along the James,
Virginia is not the same,
Without this vital river,
The beauty it delivers,
As I look upon the James.
