Don't Wake the Dreamer

A Timeless Muse

A younger me, while out for a stroll

looked up for the first time, and my breath stole.

I heard magic existed, yet I wasn't prepared

for the glamour it held left me ensnared.

Entangled in glitter that you out-shone,

no one could convince me that you were just stone.

I innocently imagined that you looked like a smile,

a joyful crescent that reached miles and miles.

I'd pretend every night that you'd follow me places

observing from above with all your different phases.

My first steps, first fall, tears, and fears,

You were there watching over me for countless years.

Somedays I'd wander, somedays I'd sigh,

Somedays I'd laugh while on others I'd cry.

You heard every secret I whispered in the dark,

never one to judge, only to hark.

Now, taking my last breath, I finally wake,

satisfied with the life you helped create.

I return your smile, knowing whatever may befall,

you're timeless... and you'll out-dream us all.

Gorgeous imagery and language! This reminds me of a song my grandma used to sing to me and that I sang to my children when they were young, "I see the moon, and the moon sees me." Loved it :)
