Don't Think I Don't Hear
The Quiet Whispers
“When you focus on someone’s disability you’ll overlook their abilities, beauty and uniqueness. Once you learn to accept and love them for who they are, you subconsciously learn to love yourself unconditionally.” Yvonne Pierre
Don’t think
I don’t hear
The quiet whispers
The things you
Think are said
In silence
Hurt me
To the core.
And don’t think
I don’t see
The way
You look
At me
As if I am
Less than you
Like I am
Defined
By what
You think
Limits me!

You treat me
Like an outcast
An afterthought
As if somehow
I don’t feel
Things
As deeply
As you!

Don’t think
I don’t hear
The quiet whispers
Because they shout
At me.
Don’t you know
It can happen
To anybody!

I'm not sure why people think those they look down on cannot see or hear the condensation. It's such a sad reality.
Amazing poem. ☺️❣️
Very beautiful poem Michelle. Nicely Done!!!
Such a powerful piece! The way it flips the script on assumptions and shows the strength behind silence is amazing. Definitely makes you think!
Amazing 🌺♦️♦️
Michelle your poem is very beautiful, very important to understand how others feel, sometimes we are not able to see. Your final line is as simple as it is true!
