Don't Tell Me I Should Be Happy

A Poem

Don't tell me I'm supposed to be happy

Don't tell me why I should be glad

For I can't help it now that I feel so lonely

And the words you say just makes me sad.

Don't tell me I'm supposed to be grateful

Don't tell me things I should be thankful for

For knowing them makes it all the more painful

It fills my heart with shame more and more.

Just tell me that you are with me

Even when you can't understand

Just tell me that when I need it

You would give a helping hand.

Try to find your way through my darkness

And maybe then I could see your light

Try to share my bitter sadness

And maybe soon I'd be all right.
