Don't Scream Out Loud

The things you want to say but remain silent

Sometimes you just want to scream in a crowd

Just to see how people respond

The joy in shouting frustration out loud

What you would normally whisper into a pond

Like the boy who spoke into the ground

That King Midas had asses ears

It's distressing to have to bury the sound

Of what others surely need to hear

To stand up in a company meeting

And scream "This has gone on too long"

To be honest when you find you are greeting

The singer whose voice can't carry the song

Instead of complementing an ugly dress

Speak up you hear inside of your mind

Your entire being is under duress

Because you've been taught to be kind

Stand up stand up be honest and proud

To your own self be true

To speak what you know you can't say out loud

Which is what you will never do
