hic sunt dracones

the dragon was quiet

this night

although i could tell

she was here

the rhythmic, frenzied echo

of

MY

heartbeat

told me succinctly

she was near

((whisper

(she was close)

i was held together

by goose bumps

a wiser man

would have fled

there was a burning,

a yearning

and an urge

in both me and my head

the heady scent of her near

the unique pungency of her close

the very projected essence of her

pulsed through me

waltzed to me

and in the rock below my feet

ripples ran up through my legs

this is a place of old magic

a place of broken men and dreams

this is the space of cold magic

and the trace of embryonic screams

this is her domain

and i was just another

hallucinogenic guest

the warmth in the stone

told me she was closer

somewhere in this place

somewhere amongst

these labyrinthine halls

there lays a highway of fireflies

a place no flowers grow

a place of bloomless quiet noise

a place where lesser dragon hunters

become shredded meat toys

a faint heated reptilian musk

hangs like tired fears

in the dank humid air

there are many clues

of her recent passing

and current unknown

whereabouts

a wave of hot fiery wind

her exhalations race the halls

her scratches, sibilant signatures

upon the floors and up the walls

some men hunt the dragon

for adventure,

or out of fear

i do not know

which one i am yet

but i do know

i am near
