Dolly Rides the Rocking Horse

Poem

By Paul CrockerPublished 8 years ago 1 min read

In the night, as you sleep.

You may hear a rhythmic creek.

But don't get up for heaven's sake.

You don't understand the trouble you'll make.

Because when Dolly rides the rocking horse, you'd better keep still.

If she knows you are awake, she'll come to kill.

In the loft, no traps are laid.

In the basement, no danger is made.

But there is something behind the door at the end of the hall.

That waits in darkness for you to answer its call.

Because as Dolly rides the rocking horse, she's biding her time.

To commit the perfect, untraceable crime.

There will be no signs of a struggle, no blood to be found.

The C.I.D will only find an old ragdoll on the ground.

They will see no cause for foul play.

Nothing unusual for the coroner to say.

But when Dolly rode the rocking horse, she woke up the tot.

Who mysteriously managed to escape his cot.
