Dog Days of Summer

A poem

Drizzling myself with a concoction of salty sweat and sunscreen,

Ogling my new bathing suit in the mirror, while my neighbor

Grills his famously undercooked burgers.

Drat my long hair, it's time for a cut.

Anything below the shoulder is a sweat trap.

You have to minimize any excess layers in this blazing furnace, no -

Sauna, with this humidity that makes my hair frizz.

Breathless from existing, I pray for a cool break

Even as I lie motionless in front of a fan.

Grabbing a beverage from the fridge is all I have the energy for.

Is this going to be the death of me? I'm sweating my guts out.

Nice job, summer, you're up 1-0.
