Do you write and bleed?

Inspiring words about the writing process.

If your pen is broken

stab it into your veins

fill it up with blood

If you write and dont bleed

Did you really write anything?

If you want to be a writer

Write for yourself, first

Write like no one will ever care

Write until your fingers ache

Write until your heart, soul and very being ache more

*

If your mind goes blank

Dig deeper, visit a friend

or take a walk, don't worry

If you write and the words don't come easy

You're on the right path

Let it ferment, let it take shape

Write what you want, first

Write as if no one will read it

Write until you touch those deep emotions

Write until your anxieties, fears and hopes are laid bare

Thanks for reading.

Had the idea for a while, but also read a couple of great pieces by two amazing creators that helped inspired me, Tina D'Angelo and L.C. Schäfer linked below:

Excellent poem Paul!! What else are you doing if you're not bleeding into the page? Are you even writing?

I thought this was inspired by 'stab me with a pen'. Both beautiful and unique pieces! Thank you for this! Just what I needed to hear tonight!

So much silence turns into words. So much pain fills your pen with blood. Keep splashing those pages, my friend. I loved this one.

Yes I have always said this, I don’t write, I bleed. Can I read this on the podcast??

  • When we bleed internally, our words bleed externally! I loved this so much!

  • Tina's story was the first thing I thought as I started reading this Paul, the entire stab yourself with a pen. It was incredibly inspiring! And your counsel is spot on.

Amen Sir! I loose so much blood during the process, but so much is gained.

Was going to ask if this was a companion piece to L.C.’s! ☺️ Then I saw one of your links at the end! I need to write more long form pieces. I’m not pushing myself enough. So I really liked these two lines particularly, “If you write and the words don't come easy.. ..Let it ferment, let it take shape”. 😊 ✍️ Thanks

  • Very inspirational! I’ll be sure to bleed next time I write!

Yes, taking a walk clear my mind for some reason. I get the gruesome beginning of the poem, it certainly how a writer would feel when there is no idea coming from the pen .

  • L.C. Schäfer2 years ago

Yes! I was waiting for this one to drop 😁
