Do you want to take a trip?

Do you want to take a trip with me?

Let's go off and see what we can see

Tangerine trees and marmalade skies

The Beatles wrote that? Did they, indeed?

Are you quite sure?

Where we are going, there's no need

For roads, tolls, cell phones, and more

Sugar-topped mountains and blood-orange sunsets

The best mix of the sweet and the sour

Rambling with a mumbling fool might be fun

Look at me shooting holes in the sky

Look at me firing my heart-shaped bubble gun

We can have a candlelit dinner on the side of forever

Wild mushrooms and the freshest tomatoes

We can stare into the great vast dark of the never

I wish it were this easy to escape from it all

Life is so hard at times, without a moment to spare

I wish we could go camping and have a woodland ball

But there's life, work or lack of, bills, stress, and more

Wouldn't you like to get away?

No, not to Boston, never to Boston,

no offense to Boston

I can't stop saying Boston,

The more I say Boston, the more I sound Boston

Sometimes, it would be nice to go where no one knows your name

Anonymity offers freedom from who you are and what you do

Sometimes, it would be nice if they were glad that you came

Anonymity offers freedom from who you've been, what you've done

I just can't wait to be on the road again

Willy was right - the longing, the desire

I just can't wait to hit the road again

Just like Jack or a wanted gun for hire

We could make our way down to the beach

Build sandcastles under the blazing sun

Wouldn't that be fun?

Then head out to sea, to a distant land

Where nothing ever has to be planned

Sing songs with the birds up in the trees

Drink from the clear stream on our knees

Let's forget the reality, even just for a day

Let's go anywhere at all just to get away

Somewhere warm, somewhere sunny

Somewhere where horses, deer, and more

Roam freely in the cool of the breeze

Then in Autumn, crunch fallen leaves

We can say goodbye, sayonara

To darkness, my old friend

Lonely days are over, and

Life is just like a sweet song

I wish

More than anything

Though

I didn't need to wake

From earworm to earworm and everything in between, like a surreal, fantastical acid trip of a dream. Bloody well done.

This was really fantastic! I love the way it unfolded and the little references tucked in there. Well done you!!

Love this one, Paul! ...this feels like a meandering, map-optional road trip to me. Really nicely done. One of my favorite lines: The more I say Boston, the more I sound Boston 😂 There is such profound truth in this. That is definitely the way it works 🤣

Wow! Some clever references in there. Even a sideways one to "Cheers!"
