There was no chance or so I'm told

We gave our all, you and I

In the end, we lost the road

There were signs and flags that showed

A jagged pill is vicious pride

There was no chance or so I'm told

Cold bed, hot head, no one to hold

You can't hold air with rage or might

In the end, we lost the road

Perhaps, it was what I was owed

But why, oh why, the cruel goodbye?

There was no chance or so I'm told

With lines, white hairs, I'm getting old

Without relief, I heave a heavy sigh

In the end, we lost the road

I am so afraid to be alone

Lost a home, on my own is only I

There was no chance or so I'm told

In the end, we lost the road

Villanelle
