Caught in a constant state of “it could be worse”
But I know I deserve so much better
People will make you feel crazy
Cuz you dare not to settle like them
So disillusioned in their own decisions
They had forgotten what it felt like to dream
They had gotten so good at convincing themselves that was all that is to life
So they stomped on my hopes
Made it as if I was the delusional one for thinking this just wasn’t enough
But they can’t stop me
I will dare to dream
I will aim for the stars and the galaxies beyond human reach
How did black women become the one expected to settle for potential. Waiting for a job, a lover, family members to prove they’re beneficial
Only to end up disappointed
Wasted time
Wasted energy
So many look at us as if we were their enemy
But I arise
And look at life like
I’m eternally surrounded by varying hues of rainbows
Always ready to take flight
into a new horizon for all to see I am so much more than they try to make me be
