Divided, We Fall

United, we stand

I’m white, but the way I dance is black.

There used to be a time I didn’t see color

And I desperately want it back.

In first grade, my mixed cousin and I

Were in the same class

Little did we know, it would be the last.

Me and my cousin.

The world, lately, sees only in black and white

He’s both.

Is that alright?

I learned at a young age

That we weren’t twins

But to my yang, he is the yin

He’s a comedian, and I’m a writer

Can we please cut it out

With judging who is lighter?

Black and white aren’t even hues

Have you ever heard of green, purple, or blue?

Skin color is merely a concept, created by you.
