Distortion of Memory
When Memories Collide
Memories distorted
Like a Dali clock
Melted over a twisted tree branch—
How can I explain the truth to you
When your truth is as firmly planted
In your mind
As my truth is planted
In mine?
Memories clouded
With the fog of distance and time
Like a ship leaving the beacon of the lighthouse—
How can I convince you of how things truly were
When you have painted a different picture
For so long?
Memories viewed through broken lenses
Shattered by others’ whispers
Like the serpent in the Garden—
How can I get you to see the error of your memory
When you have let others influence you
Turn you
Tear away your rose-colored tinting
For so long?
Memories blackened
Like poisoned veins
Bulging, swelling—
How can I save you from yourself
When you won’t take the lifeline
That I have given you?

Phenomenally written & powerful!
The depth of the is incredible, Stephanie!! I Leo the richness in both the metaphorical and literal feel of this piece. The idea that although you may share a memory with someone, they may not view it through the same lens... so brilliant!!
This was so beautiful! I truly loved it!
