Dissected

a stream-of-consciousness poem

Dissected.

Dissectipede.

How many legs does a dissectipede have?

It’s creepy – dissection.

Unnatural in a way that

chainsaw accidents aren’t.

Too clinical. Too cold.

Too detached. Unlike

the immediacy of

unexpected trauma.

That is coming whether you

want it, or not,

oblivious, or not.

Dissection is not random.

If you are being dissected,

someone likely got up

at 4:30 AM,

showered,

then thought about dissecting you

over wheat toast and Maxwell House.

That’s someone’s job.

Dr. Dissectipede.
