Dissect Your Demons

Verse 1
I used to swing my sword at shadows on the wall,
Tried to kill the things that scared me, never named them at all.
But every time I struck one down, another rose again,
’Til I learned they weren’t my enemies, they were long‑forgotten friends.
Pre‑Chorus
They were hungry for the stories I refused to let be told,
Guarding every wounded moment I was too afraid to hold.
Chorus
Do not just slay your demons, sit with them and hear their cries.
Ask them what they’ve been feeding on, what truth you’ve pushed aside.
They’re the echoes of your history, the parts you left behind.
Do not just slay your demons, dissect them and you’ll find
They were only trying to keep you alive.
Verse 2
Anger had a heartbeat made of sorrow and regret,
Fear was just a child shaking from a night she can’t forget.
Envy whispered softly of the dreams I never claimed,
And shame was just the silence where no one spoke my name.
Pre‑Chorus
Every demon held a memory I’d buried in the dark,
Waiting for the day I’d listen with a softer, braver heart.
Bridge
When I stopped the holy war inside my chest,
When I let the wounded speak instead of forcing them to rest,
I found the light was never meant to banish night away,
It was meant to shine upon the places I was scared to stay.
Final Chorus
Do not just slay your demons, let compassion be your guide.
Hold the trembling parts of you you’ve kept so long denied.
When you finally understand them, they no longer need to hide.
Do not just slay your demons, dissect them and you’ll find
They were only trying to keep you alive.
