Absence thumped
Beating against ribs-
Cacophony in head
Dipped thoughts in
Ever longing-
Fingers searched blindly
Grabbed loose threads-
Hang on loosely
I didn’t fall-
Just stumbled-
Kindred spirits they said,
Lying love letters saved in secret
Moody mornings to follow-
Never functioning
Or rather over functioning to compensate
Paused our future
Quietly retreated to lick wounds
Repressed our beliefs
Star crossed no longer
True believers in
Unbearable love’s
Violent break-
X-ray shown empty
Yours forever
Zero regrets.

The short lines make for a rapid pace and flow, and I like the consistent imagery of body in here with x-ray, licking wounds, fingers, ribs etc. “Lying love letters saved in secret” is a line with a lot behind it! Nicely done👏
Heart-provoking thoughts, Katrina.
