You look different
since we last met
not your usual changing
waxing and waning
but turned somehow
a new angle to your face
Even the stars around you
seem to have shifted their seats
Are you the same moon
that guided me growing up?
The same soft eye
that watched me from the dunes?
Or did you change when I did
when I boarded a plane
and traded sand for snow
sunburn for skyline
home for somewhere that still doesn’t say my name?
Maybe you’re the same,
and it’s just me who’s tilted
my orbit, my view
a planet realigned
I don’t think any less of you
but I miss the way you used to hang
like a friend outside my window
steady, knowing,
lighting the path I didn’t know I was on
Now, from this side of the world,
you feel new
stranger, smaller,
like a photograph taken with someone else’s camera
All I hope
is that, in time,
I’ll learn to love
this new light of you
And hopefully
Your love me me stays true

Have you ever tried to tell someone how you feel, or tried to articulate a deep thought but couldn’t quite find the words?
Same. That is why I write.
Writer and Poet. Trying to unpack and decipher my brain and heart, one word at a time.
