Did We Miss Each Other?
A poem of longing and lost connections

I saw a train pull into the platform
An endlessly long, silver-shining train
with thousands of seats filled with faces
of unknown, indifferent strangers
How am I supposed to find you?
.
I saw a highway with tall noise barriers
An endlessly long line of moving cars
each with four seats occupied by bodies
of indifferent, averted people
How am I supposed to find you?
.
You’re there in the midst of the crowd
Blurred in a haze of disparity
But I know your face
I know your body
That’s how I can find you!
.
Will the train have room for me?
Will someone give up a seat next to you
so we can unite on this journey
or will we meet with disdain
leaving me unable to reach you?
.
Can the driver stop his ride
and pick up two hitchhikers
in the middle of the grinding highway
showing humanity for a moment
So we can find a purpose?
.
What if the train doesn’t stop?
What if the line of cars just drives on?
Separating us at full speed and miles apart
Did we miss each other?
.
Author's Note: I was inspired to this poem from the fast moving humans around the Globe, if physical or on social media. You see the faces of so many unknown people, whom you do not know and who do not care about you or what you are, other than another stranger. I use the word miss because it can have two different meanings, to miss someone like I did not meet you and to miss someone like I long for you. The rest is up to you!

I love this. So much bittersweet whatif. Let's all slow down. Who knows what wonders we miss ♥
These are great analogies relating to the fast-paced life we lead and how quickly life can pass us by because of its frenetic pace.
A powerful statement about our disconnected society. Well writtne!
you writing is distinct, you are very talented with great mind keep it up👌
Hej Dharrsheena, I'm glad you thought about the duality giving it different meanings, first I wasn't sure to publish it at all, but then I worked the "miss" into my first draft, and I think it worked all of a sudden. ❤️
This was so profound, especially because of the dual meaning of the word miss. Loved your poem!
