Destiny Pulls Pranks

And blesses if we don't provoke it

Hummingbird in the nest @Seema

Today I was talking to my kids

how destiny pulls pranks.

I said I never know

how sycamore looks like,

but the very next year.

I found myself in a place

where sycamore is dominant species.

I was visiting an ice sculpture exhibit

and wondering why is the

emergency exit was needed,

there are no fire risks.

The next moment,

hypothermia seemed to set in,

and I was asking,

where is the emergency exit?

I thought how I studied all my life,

never held a baby

how will care for a baby,

in this immigrant life,

without a support system?

Then came the pandemic,

my spouse worked from home,

I got robust help.

The other day, I was telling my little son

that pennies have been discontinued

and it is unlikely,

to find them on the road anymore.

Right then, there it was,

a quarter on the ground.

I told my daughter that

one of my wishes this year

was to see a hummingbird nest.

They are hard to find, so elusive.

A few weeks later,

while sitting in my driveway,

I noticed something near my feet,

an abandoned hummingbird nest,

fallen from the carrotwood tree.

As I looked up into the canopy,

a new hummingbird nest,

with a bird inside.

Destiny pulls pranks,

but it also blesses us,

if we do not enrage it.

Serendipity, don't you just love when you're lucky enough to be blessed with it <3

Objects like the sycamore, pennies, and hummingbird nests carry symbolic weight, linking everyday occurrences to larger patterns of life. These details make abstract ideas like fate and blessing feel immediate and lived.
