I made a descent from that forsaken place,
Had to step back — yeah, it's a damn disgrace.
My mama taught me better than that,
She showed me how to wear intention like a hat.
Took some time, they don’t teach this in school,
So gather ‘round now, let me give you the tool.
We can rise above, we can outgrow that fool.
Yeah, I made a descent from that dark space,
Now I'm dreaming of a warm, loving place.
I made a descent, ‘cause there’s no grace
In a world that keeps love out of its face.
My lady says love always rises above,
She holds me gentle, like a basket of doves.
And when my daughters cry, I know I’ve got to try —
Gotta be the calm, gotta reach for the sky.
When they say they’re not understood,
I stop what I’m doing, try to meet them where I should.
I made a descent from that place,
‘Cause living in anger is a terrible waste.
People chasing shadows, running in haste —
But I slowed it down, gave my heart some space.
When my friends ask how I ride that wave,
I pause for a second, I don’t always know what to say.
But without my ladies, I wouldn't be this way.
Yeah, I made a descent, had to get out that place —
Man, it’s been heavy — what a damn disgrace.
Just had to rise, just had to face
The mirror, the truth, the need to erase.
My daughters ask, “Is there a higher way?”
Makes me want to rise more every day.
It’s okay to let some waves just go,
When you know that your descent is what helps you grow.
I don’t always know how to tell my friends
About this change, this feeling that never ends —
But when an overhead set rolls in,
Life starts reeling, and I begin again.
I made a descent from that place,
Left behind the pain, the rage, the chase.
I want my girls to know they’re my sacred grace,
They’re the reason I found a safer space.
And when my lady lifts a brow,
I remember — she’s the one who showed me how
To descend from that broken place,
And rise above with love, with hope, with grace...
Yeah — to rise above, into the human race.
