An Ekphrastic Sonnet

Beware the enthusiastic censor

Busy insulting your intelligence

Eager to usurp the role of mentor

Convinced that there's nothing beyond the fence

What joy is his, limiting your options!

How kind he is to shield you from the truth

He practices a form of deception

Insisting that real food will break your tooth

Reality is strange and disgusting

Festooned with beauty, seething with madness

The spoilers reveal what's worth discussing

You can handle all that you can caress

Seeing the truth too soon might change your mind

And liberate it to leave lies behind

Ekphrastic

About the Creator

Some nice wordplay here, D.J. Made me think of the old redacted political files and I’m sure there are many apt parallels for the news today. And advertising, man I hate advertising.

Excellent work! Especially that last line. Well done.

  • Oooo, I especially loved the last two lines!

Just let your imagination fill the gaps which you could argue is infinitely more dangerous, eh, D.J.?

  • I love the presentation of this, and the words are excellent. The main image is perfect for your sonnet

Well done, D.J. I thought the way you shaped this poem around the censored images was so interesting and clever. For me, it sheds light on American news media. Loved it
