Death By Sharing Too Much identity

She wrote like silence breaking glass

sharp and spare, nothing dressed

words that cut and didn’t bleed

she had respect, she had peace.

she had a loving family

Now she is deceased.

She love to write and chat.

Not for fame, or to be the great I am,

but the quiet nods and like’s

of readers who knew what truth was.

she signed it all in her real name oh no.

That was her first mistake

He read her work, liked her style

looked her up, wasn’t hard

Facebook showed the rest of her

a soft face, a steady path

that she lived alone.

He sent a message, called her brave

said her poems cut in the best way

she answered once, then once again

a week of talk, soft and strange

She never saw the shift come in

He seemed polite, a little shy

She felt a pull, a blush, a thrill

and gave him where she lived

Not much, just her address

said she’d cook if he liked roast

nothing fancy, just a meal

for someone who loved her words.

She was nervous, yes, but flattered too

set the table, played old tunes

checked her mirror, twice, then once

He showed up on time.

Oh hi, please do come in.

They talked a bit, they sipped some tea

she smiled once, then left the room

to powder her nose

and on the way back

it was over before she could blink.

He waited, grabbed her by the throat

held tight until she stopped breathing

found by her brother on the landing Dead

The Murderer made a big mistake

He left just one thing out of place

before he entered her home that night.

he threw his cigarette butt

on the side path by the door

Three weeks later, all Vocal was in shock

The news and newspapers reported:

Poet who lived for her writing on Vocal.Media

was murdered

WHY?

All because she made two mistakes,

using her real name

and accepting his friend request.

after he found her on Facebook.

Even though he was unknown.

The warning to everyone is this:

Not everyone you meet is nice.

There are evil people out there too.

Always protect your true identity.

This is a tragic story. It's scary how easily sharing personal info can turn deadly. I've always been cautious online. You think she could've avoided this if she'd been more guarded? And how can we better protect ourselves in the digital world?
